Routine stool examination or stool test is a detailed examination of the stool to detect the presence of any abnormal cells or organisms. The stool is examined microscopically to detect the pH, consistency, presence of any blood cells (RBCs), parasites etc. Stool test is one of the basic tests performed in patients suspected of any gastrointestinal abnormalities. This is a screening test. In certain scenarios additional / alternative testing for confirmation may be required.
