PUO Profile is used to detect the IgM Antibodies to Dengue, Leptospira, Brucella, EBV infections apart from Aerobic & Anaerobic Blood Culture test.
- The test is done to diagnose and detect the possible underlying infective causes for the pyrexia or persistent fever.
- To rule out the infective causes for the pyrexia
- To diagnose cases of dengue, leptospira, brucella or EBV infections showing atypical presentation or that are asymptomatic clinically.
- Patients with persistent fever for 3 weeks or more
- Immunocompromised patients presenting with atypical symptoms and fever.
- Patients with recent exposure to infections.
- Patients presenting with unknown causes of GI related symptoms like diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, fever etc.
This test requires a blood sample. A tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm. The patient is then asked to make a fist. This helps in the build-up of blood filling the veins. The skin is disinfected before needle insertion and the blood sample is collected in vacutainer.
