Ovary is the female reproductive organ mainly responsible for the production of female hormones and has a major role in fertility and sexual functions. Ovarian disorders can often lead to hormonal imbalance and fertility issues. Ovarian cancers or malignancies occur due to formation of abnormal multiplication of cells or tissues leading to the formation of fibroids or mass which can often be cancerous. The diagnosis or initial screening is done by certain cancer marker and some hormonal tests. Cancer markers or tumour markers are proteins produced by the normal cells as well as cancer cells, but are produced in higher levels by the cancer cells. This test requires a blood sample. A tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm. The patient is then asked to make a fist. This helps in the build-up of blood filling the veins. The skin is disinfected before needle insertion and the blood sample is collected in vacutainer.
