Environmental allergy panel test measures the IgE-mediated response to 25 sources of environmental inhalants. The include Cat dander, Dog dander, Common Ragweed (Ambrosia Elatior )Close To Parthenium / Congress Grass, House Dust (Greer Labs), D Farinae (House Dust Mite), D Pterysinuss (House Dust Mite), Cockroach German (Blatella Germanica), Papdi Chibil / Elm, Penicillium Notatum (Fungi), Cladosporium Herbarum (Fungi), Aspergillus Fumigatus (Fungi), Candida Albicans (Fungi), Alternaria (Fungi), Cynodon grass (Bermuda Grass / Durva), Sorghum grass (Jhonson Grass / Jowar), Timothy grass (Phleum pratense / Ghass), Meadow grass (Poa pratensis ), Cultivated Rye (Secale Cereale), Mugwort (Artemisia Vulgaris / Bano, Barna, Sita Bani), Alder (Alnus incana), Birch (Betula verrucosa), Oak (Quercus alba), Saltwort (Salsola kali / pestifer), Common Pigweed (Amaranthus Retroflexus / Kaantewali Chauli).
Total IgE levels are also measured.
Environmental allergy panel test requires a blood sample post exposure to the allergens. A tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm. The patient is then asked to make a fist. This helps in the build-up of blood filling the veins. The skin is disinfected before needle insertion and the blood sample is collected in vacutainer.
Positive result to an allergen indicates that the person is allergic to it. Increased allergen-specific IgE levels further confirm that. Very often the test may be positive for more than one allergen as well. The further treatment course is decided based on the results.
Negative results may require other tests for differential diagnosis.
